In ’66 Warhol held an exhibition at the Castelli Gallery in NY where he showed Silver Space Pillows. They were to mark the end of his painting career. You could simply fill the pillows with air and let them go.
But they didn’t fly away. And his experiment with technology meant he discovered something new. Something everyone could enjoy. And he decided his career never had been over.
For me Silver Space Pillows is a metaphor for innovation, freedom and participation.
